Brett's Update

Hello Valley Valley View Field Trial Association Friends,

Here is the monthly update for the LBJ Grasslands and how the association is progressing.

New Items:

As stated last month we had filed our paperwork to form a non-profit with the State of Texas as well as opened a bank account. We have received confirmation back from the State and our certificate has been filed.

Mike Pirtle and I met with the interim Ranger at the grasslands in early February. They have determined that the Granger-Thye permit is not the route that would be best as it imposes significantly more responsibility on the Association than we need in order to accomplish our goals. That being said, she felt that the best route would be to continue to pursue a long term partnership agreement. This is would essentially involve changing our annual permit to a five year permit. Easier said than done, but they do continue to look for ways to help us.

USFS suggested that we make our management plan more specific and resubmit it. Dr. Kelly Reyna at UNT Quail has offered to write the management plan and met Mike and I at the grasslands this week to learn exactly what we needed and how we can help get the USFS back into compliance with their plan, as well as improve the habitat for quail and have great courses for all of our events. This plan should be completed within the next week or two.

If you have upcoming events please keep an eye out for Dr. Reyna or his PhD. candidate Sarah Josephson who may stop by to see what our events look like and how they can improve the grounds further. Sarah is studying the effects of drought conditions on northern bobwhite reproduction and she’ll also monitor bobwhite populations on properties associated with UNT-Quail (like LBJ and other ranches).

They may even bring their GSP (Lady Bird) who they are using to help count quail (flush counts) in their work.

New Members

We have received membership fees from Region 7 AFTCA, Lone Star GSP Club, and Trinity Valley Weimaraner Club THANK YOU!!

We have also received a generous donation from Mr. Preston Trimble. THANK YOU!!

At this point the USFS is responding to the number of members we have, the more members, the more likely they are willing to listen to and work with us. If you have not done so, please send in your fee, and why not contact some other clubs in your area and ask them to join our efforts.

We are counting on the support of many clubs throughout Texas and remember, our goal is to establish a permanent Field Trial Grounds in the State.

Please feel free to forward my information to clubs you know of who are not on the list or send the info to me and I will be happy to reach out to them.

Reminders:

Please continue to check the new website set up by Bonnie Pirtle you can check open dates and make reservations here http://vvfta.blogspot.com/ (Be sure to save this page to your bookmarks) Again, dates reserved by VVFTA are dates reserved for member use of the grounds. Just send in your reservation fee payable to the VVFTA to Mike as we have done in the past, and your club can have that date.

Check out the UNT Quail site at www.quail.unt.edu to see their updates on the quail situation in Texas as well as see what they are studying.

Membership fee is $50.00/year and allows clubs to reserve the grounds for field trials, training days, hunt tests, etc..

Please make checks payable to:

Valley View Field Trial Association, Inc. or VVFTA, Inc

and send to

800 Riva Ridge, Wylie, TX 75098

I will continue to send out monthly updates as well as an accounting of our member funds as well as expenditures.

Thank you,

Brett Faucett, M.B.A.
